PLYMOUTH – Colby-Sawyer charged over the Panthers 68-58 Tuesday evening at Foley Gymnasium. The Chargers’ Emma Pasquale and Noelle Surette combined for 43 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Pasquale, who leads Colby-Sawyer in offense this year, made 12-of-17 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 26 points and contributing with eight rebounds and five blocked shots. Surette contributed with 17 points, a game-high nine boards and three blocks. Colby-Sawyer remains undefeated while improving to 4-0 on the season. The Panthers drop to 1-3 overall.
Lauren Daniels finished with team-high 11 points and led the Panthers and seven rebounds. Joy DePalo contributed towards the effort with 10 points and two rebounds. Senior Heather Thomas finished with a solid day with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The game began as an offensive slugfest between the two teams; both remaining relatively deadlocked with one another. The Panthers gained the advantage when they went on an 8-0 point burst to gain the 19-11 lead. The Chargers hung on and eventually brought the game within one point (22-21). The game slowly entered halftime as both teams continued the offensive assault upon one another. After three consecutive shots by Surette, the Chargers gained the lead (34-33) heading into the half.
The Panthers shot a 45.2 field goal percent in the first half, making 14-of-31 shots and making 2-of-6 three-point field goals. Colby-Sawyer shot a 40.5 field goal percent, making 15-of-37 shots.
Colby-Sawyer offense charged into the second half strong, beginning with a 13-4 burst to give Colby the 10 point lead (47-37). Both teams continued their offensive showcase while PSU continued to fight to hold on. The Panthers eventually tied the game (53-53) but were cut short by the Charger’s 9-0 burst.
The Panthers fared no better in the second half, making only 28.2 percent (11-of-39) of their shots and 23.1 (3-of-7) percent of their three-point shots. Colby-Sawyer finished the second half with a 48.1 (13-of-27) percent of their shots and 3-of-7 of their three-point field goals.
Plymouth will look to rebound from their rough start this season when they host Western Connecticut State University in their LEC home opener on Saturday evening (4:00 p.m.) at Foley Gymnasium.
