You can revel in good music, even if you’re officially broke

Though the majority of Plymouth State students don’t venture out to the bars on Tuesday nights, next week they should make an exception. Bands “Officially Broke” and “Forging Reverie” come together next Tuesday, December 5 at 9 p.m. for “PHOP Rock.”

“Officially Broke” is based out of Plymouth and consists of eight band members and an impressive amount of instruments. According to their web site, Officiallybrokemusic.com, Ernie Lemelin and Jeff LeRoy serve as songwriters for the band. As well as writing, Lemelin serves as the band’s lead guitar and vocalist. LeRoy plays the piano and sings too.

Other members include: Kevin Smith on drums, Ryan McGonagle on bass, Ian McCarthy and Tim Polhemus both on trumpet and flugelhorn, Mel Donahue on alto and tenor saxophone and Dan Heffenan on baritone saxophone.

According to their web site, Myspace.com/forgingreverie, “Forging Reverie” is also based out of Plymouth and consists of four members: Tye Newton on lead vocals, Derek Heidenmann on guitar, Ryan Kinghorn on bass and guitar and Ben Biery on drums. The band is self-described as “Sonic Neo- Expressionism.” Their music means a lot to them and they consider it “a means of introspection, self realization, catharsis, and general creative fulfillment.”

Though the bands are playing in the bar, those who aren’t 21 shouldn’t fret since the event is open to anyone over 18. Cover charges do apply, however, so those 18-20 should be sure to bring three dollars with them, and those 21 plus need bring only a dollar. Doors open at 8:30 at PHOP on Main Street, and the bands begin at 9.
