Plymouth State allocates $1,458,245 in student funding

This year’s round of allocations saw some big numbers; a total of $1,458,245 was allocated to student organizations, athletics, sports clubs, student services, recreation and other groups. The $1.4 million allocated this year is a substantial 7.2% increase from last year’s allocations, which gave out $1,369,215.

The top five student organizations that received the most amounts of allocated funding were: PACE at $120,000; Conning Tower Yearbook at $50,000; the Student Accounting Office at $43,000; Plymouth State University shuttle services at $40,000; and CEA, the Student Senate authorized account to help groups in need, at $35,000. 19% of each student’s activities fee is used for these five groups.

Athletics was the highest account allocated with $682,000 of the total funds. This number is up from the $597,000 allocated last year. From each student’s activity fee, 46% is used toward the support of athletics.

Other high-end accounts, such as Plymouth Recreation were allocated $97,000, up from $90,000. The annual ski package received $20,250 for next winter’s Plymouth State choice during ski season. This is a $1,000 increase from last year.

Seven groups were level-funded for next year because of failure to turn in paperwork. Other student organizations did not receive funds because of failure to appear at their allocations hearing.

The overall increase in the amount allocated subsequently increased the Student Activities fee 4.36% or $15.53 per student. The total cost of the student activities fee increased from $356.00 to $371.53 for next year. This year’s increase is slightly lower than last, which was 4.7% or $16.00 per student.

The total requested amount of funding was $1,591,795.50. If this amount, each student’s activity’s fee would have increased to $412.00, an increase of $56.00, a percentage of 15.7%.
