On April 10, Plymouth State University will be honoring the nominees and winner of the Student Employee of the Year Award (SEOTY) from 3 P.M. to 4 P.M in the Bradford Room of Centre Lodge.
This is the first year that Plymouth will be giving the honor designed to recognize the dedicated students that work for the University. Previously, the only other schools in New Hampshire that participate in the program are Dartmouth College and Keene State College.
According to the form, advisors were asked to nominate student employees based on their reliability, initiative, quality of work, disposition, and contribution to the employer in January. Employers were also asked to include a brief narrative about the student. In February, a committee read over the nominations and chose a single individual to receive the honor of Student Employee of the Year.
The committee for the award reviewed 14 applications, which is a credible turnout for the first year.
“Being a reader of the nominations, myself, it was nice to read about all the great students that we have working here,” said Angela Uhlman, Coordinator of the program, Councilor in Financial Aid and Plymouth State alum of 1998. “I think that for the first year we got a good number of nominations and the committee I have right now was very helpful with the organization.”
The recipient of Plymouth State’s SEOTY will be entered in a competition against other recipients from the region. Pending the outcome there, the student may also be entered at the National level to receive the National Student Employee of the Year Award. The recipient at the National level will be determined by the April 10 deadline, so the student receiving Plymouth State’s award will know the outcome nationally as well.
Nominees and their advisors will be formally invited to the event on April 10, but all are encouraged to attend.
“We look forward to recognizing those who went above and beyond their call of duty,” said Uhlman.
