Members of the administration and a small population of students gathered in the HUB’s Multipurpose Room to honor the dedication of organizations volunteering on and off campus on Tuesday, April 10.
This event is part of the weeklong “Imagine Away” investiture to celebrate the University’s President, Dr. Sara Jayne Steen. The actual investiture ceremony will be taking place Thursday, April 12 at 3:00 P.M. at the P.E. Center.
Student Body President Peter Laufenberg and Sophomore Class Representative Trevor Chandler, Co-Coordinators of the event, greeted audience members.
“Today we are celebrating and commending all the great student groups that do so much for this campus as well as some of the groups based in the community,” said Chandler. “Every year we see more and more cooperation between the University and the town, whether it be community members participating in our clubs or airing their talents on WPCR or students devoting their time at the Pemi Youth Center.”
Shirley Glines, an alum of PSC, gave a speech targeted at the students in the room about her own experiences at Plymouth State during her student years which began in 1996. Glines discussed the life she led before attending Plymouth at the age of 39 and the transformation she experienced in college through the supportive and respectful community that Plymouth has.
“The journey is the real trick and that is how the dream really happens,” said Glines. She continued by saying, “Life is filled with lots of new learning, new opportunities and new friends.”
Other speakers included Diane Jeffery of the Silver Center for the Arts, Chris Johnson of Physical Plant, and Jessica Dutile of the Pemi Youth Center.
Several organizations were mentioned by name for their hard work and efforts during the school year. PACE, Spring Fling, Gaming, Anime Club, Medieval Society. ALSO, and Student Government were among those named.
