Unseen the poet slams in the Fire Place Lounge

After a very somber Wednesday afternoon, the Fireplace lounge lit up with a crowd-pleasing night of performance poetry.

The night started out with students and faculty read their own work with passion, humor and so many other emotions. One of the first to take the mic was Ivy Page, the President of PSU Poets and Writers. Soon to follow was Paul Rogalus of the English Department. Last to come to the open mic portion of the show were several students. It won’t be any surprise if Plymouth State University sees a professional performance come out of the crowd, they all certainly had the potential.

Hope Jordan, the Assistant Director for Annual Giving in the Office of College Advancement, then took the stage to introduce the night’s special guest. He is from Manchester, New Hampshire and goes shoe shopping with the famous Mighty Mike McGee. Unseen is one of New Hampshire’s semi -final winning professional poets.

Unseen had no need for a mic, he just got up from his seat in the crowd and belted the lyrics of his poem “Taste of Rain.” Words coming out of his mouth with ease and passion got everyone in the crowd feeling the performance poetry. Next was a poem that he says is untitled, but likes to call “Candy Lane.” This got the crowd laughing and wanting more. He then paid respect to his friend Mighty Mike McGee. McGee’s poem “Like” was a crowd pleaser when he was here earlier in the semester and continues to have spectators yell some of the most famous lyrics. Following this, Unseen wrote a little something to respect the man on the mountain, which shows his New Hampshire loyalty. A “Tribute to Johnny Cash”, which became more of a slam about slam poetry. Lastly ending of the night with the “Big Bang,” which was a poem that sends inspiration to a special person.

Unseen the Poet had the crowd in laughter and feeling his enthusiasm with every word that came from his mouth. If you were among those who missed out, you should check out Myspace.com/unseenthepoet to listen in.
