Women’s Rugby competes in annual Spring Fling game

The PSU women’s rugby club took the field for their annual Spring Fling game against their alumni on Friday, May 4, for their last time this season: for the seniors, the last time of their college careers.

As many may remember, the women’s rugby team went to Nationals last year and gained the second place title in Division II bracket during the 2006 National Championships. This proved to be tough for Plymouth, but they fought together and left happy with the results.

On this final game of the season, both sides agreed to play 10’s (10 players on the field instead of 15) for two halves, each lasting 10 minutes. The addition of a five minute half-time results in a 25-minute match.

For the “old girls” it was more than enough time to score, teach and play, leaving them exhausted and exhilarated with the team they were departing. For the “new girls,” or the remaining rugby team, it was their chance to prove to the alumni just how tough they are and the lessons learned throughout the season were put to good use.

Thankfully, neither side had any major injuries, which leaves promise for next season. The team will plan to use what they have to rebuild and get back into nationals in the upcoming years.

The graduating seniors will be missed next season. The team sends their congratulations and good-byes.
