Many up-coming bands today define themselves by their sound, marketability, or number of CD’s sold. In a local scene dominated by fashion and image, “The If In Life,” a heavy hitting hardcore outfit from South Berwick, M.E. are taking things back to a do-it-yourself approach.
Few bands embody the true spirit of hardcore: gritty home recordings, garage practice sessions, and long nights spent driving hours in a van. However, “The If In Life” is changing the way fans look at music, and they’re doing so on their own terms.
Since they recently finished their self-produced EP, “Four Steps to Becoming a Social Animal,” the boys have their eyes set on bigger things, including a major performance this October featuring Eyeball recording artists, The Number Twelve Looks Like You.
“We’re pumped that things are moving forward. We worked super hard over the last year touring locally and playing a ton of shows. We played something like 90 shows last year, and the hard work is finally paying off for us,” said Matt Tate, the band’s vocalist and frontman, “This upcoming show is a major step up for us, we’re psyched.”
Striving for uniqueness in their music and good times performing, “The If In Life” are do-it-yourself hardcore at it’s best; few bands pour themselves into their craft so wholeheartedly. Just catch their live show for further proof, as “The If In Life” is one of the most energetic and entertaining live acts in the area. They rock hard, and are unassuming about their growing talent.
The band’s next show will be October 18, at the Manchester American Legion Hall, Post 79, with “The Number Twelve Looks Like You” and “See You Next Tuesday.” Tickets are $10 in advance, and will also be available at the door. With a steadily growing fan base, upcoming shows and new merchandise available, things are looking bright for “The If In Life.”
