Panther’s Men’s soccer team falls to Middlebury 5-0

It was a tough loss this past weekend for the Plymouth State men’s soccer team, as they fell to Middlebury College by a score of 5-0 in Middlebury, Vermont. PSU’s record now goes to 4-7-1 on the season, with a record of 2-3 in the Little East Conference (LEC). Middlebury improves their record to 10-1 on the season.

David LaRocca started the scoring off for Middlebury early, knocking in a goal just over a minute into the game. It became 2-0 twenty-two minutes in after Casey Ftorek headed a goal that was set up by an Alex Elias corner kick. Taylor Wilkins ended the first half of play with Middlebury’s third goal, with an assist from Stephen Hart. Things did not get easier for PSU in the second half, as Elias scored a goal in the second half, and Andrew Banadda finished off the scoring by adding a late goal, with another assist from Hart. For his efforts in the game and from games earlier in the week, Ftorek won the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.

PSU is now in sixth place in the LEC conference, while Middlebury still has a firm grasp on second place to Amherst College in the NESCAC. The Panthers have a tough finish to their season coming up. Their last three games are on the road, starting this Saturday at 1 P.M against UMass Dartmouth.  The Corsairs are 10-3-1 this season, with a record of 2-2-1 in the LEC. The Panthers will then travel to Green Mountain College on Wednesday the 24th and then play their last game of the season at UMass Boston on Saturday the 27th.
