The Anthropology/Sociology Club (AN/SO) is planning a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday April 19. The trip is open to students who are not in the club. For those unfamiliar with this club on campus, the club is for Anthropology/Sociology majors or those simply interested in the fields.
“The AN/SO club hosts a number of guest talks from professionals in our fields of study” said AN/SO club president Amanda Allen, “We also host events such as our annual holiday dinner in December, an educational film festival during Archaeology Month (October) showing films such as Indiana Jones, or Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and annually hold a graduate school forum with visiting professionals and professors to help make the graduate school selection as easy as possible”.
For those who are interested in the MFA trip, the group will depart from the HUB at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. Vans will be driven by AN/SO club members over the age of 21 who have a valid driver’s license. Upon arrival at Boston, the group will travel by subway from Sullivan Square to Ruggles Station, where the museum is an easy walk across the Northeastern University campus. The students will then be free to roam the MFA from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. For students who wish to catch some lunch or dinner on the trip, there is a cafeteria in the museum.
As group allocations funding is tight, the total cost of transportation will be divided amongst those going in order to finance the trip. One 10 person van costs $160 and the cost will be determined by student interest and number of participants. Students will be expected to bring a total of $4.00 for the subway ride and extra cash for food, if they wish to eat. However, admission to the MFA will be covered by the AN/SO club. Students should to bring their student ID cards to allow the AN/SO club to get the discounted rate.
“We’re all very excited about this!” said Allen “This is sure to be the first of many trips in the future for the AN/SO club. We’re hoping to peak some interest and plan future events the club may hold”. The AN/SO club meets every other Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Rounds 212. Refreshments are served and all are welcome to sit in or participate. Anyone with questions about the club or who are interested in the trip, please contact the AN/SO club president, Amanda Allen, at aallen@plymouth.edu. Those interested in the trip should contact Allen by April 9 in order to assess final costs for the van rentals.
