Acoustic Boston based band Cahill brought a positive attitude, but a generic college rock sound to The Greene on Tues, Sept. 16, 2008, Cahill consists of longtime childhood friends Bob Antonelli and Scotty O’Brien.
Cahill began off handedly performing together when the two guitarists had come up with enough of their original material. Cahill released the album “Blend” in the summer of 2005. The duet began touring the Northeast, performing shows at small venues and colleges. After touring the Northeast the band was able to get enough material to release the 10-song album, “At the Seams”, which consists of the two guitar players as well as guest musicians playing the piano, bass, violin and drums.
The band played on one of the coldest nights that Plymouth has had so far, making for the crowd to add up to less than 40 people. Even though the crowd wasn’t large the band still had an outgoing attitude about the show and gave a shout out, “Thanks for being so nice, it really helps when we get in our car and just drive,” before they played their last song “What You Mean To Me.”
Cahill’s music can be comparable to such college rock bands as Dave Matthews Band or O.A.R. Rather than a long jam in the middle of their songs like most bands of their genre, their songs consist of heart broke lyrics and simplistic guitar chords for the hopeless romantics. The vocals were fine until the end of the show on the last song they drown out the guitars during “What You Mean To Me” performed by Scotty O’Brien.
After the show Cahill gave out free CDs to the first three who signed up for their email list. The people who had been there the longest and were probably the coldest ran to the merchandise table to receive their free CDs, as well as other students walking who were willing to pay. This made the band rather content with their 50 degree weather show, now having blossomed a new fan base at PSU.
