The Video Music Awards seem to always have their memorable moments, but this year tops the cake with a blood spattered Lady Gaga, a rude intrusive Kanye West and a New Moon Trailer all on the bill. This year’s VMAS were held on Sunday, September 13 at 8 p.m. on MTV. One of the most talked about events was Kanye West’s rude interruption of Taylor Swift’s thank you speech after winning Best Female Video. West felt that Beyonce should have won because her video was one of the best “of all time.” An embarrassed ashamed Swift walked off the stage crying. Luckily for Swift, Beyonce is as sweet as pie. She gave away her acceptance speech time to a saddened Swift after spending a moment reminiscing about how exciting it was to win a VMA at age 17. West later gave an embarrassing and seemingly condescending apology in his blog to Swift, saying:
“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyonce’s video was the best video of the decade! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world! Everyone wanna booooo me but I’m a real fan of pop culture! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the crib right now cause…well you know! I’m still happy for Taylor! Booyaw. You are very very talented! I gave my awards to Outcast when they deserved it over me…that’s what it is! I’m not crazy ya’ll, I’m just real. Sorry for that. I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry! Much respect!” Most talked about events didn’t only happen during accept speeches, but also during performances. Lady Gaga, or her new alter ego fans are now refereeing to her as “CooCoo Gaga,” had quite the memorable performance of her new single, “Paparazzi.” Gaga began singing a melodious version of her spring single, “Poker Face,” then soon turned into the tough to watch, “Paparazzi.” Gaga went from dancing on the elaborate stairs that were considered the stage, to a brief intermission of her playing the piano with her foot on the keys. Gaga ended her performance with a bloody face, hands and eye. She was able to distract the audience with her dancers to apply the fake catastrophe. Gaga may has lost it, but her fans still love, her/ Another great memorable performance was the Michael Jackson tribute. A collection of skilled dancers made their way on stage in costumes of what Jackson wore throughout the years. Beginning with the “Thriller,” dance in red jackets all the way to Jackson’s “Beat It” gang ensemble. To top off the tribute, Janet Jackson made her way onto the stage to help pay tribute to her late brother. The tribute was the most appropriate way to say goodbye to the “King of Pop.” Overall the VMAS were a success, minus the small details that make for good ratings. The VMAS can be seen on MTV throughout the week. Check the local listings.
