The department of Residential Life has changed the system by which returning students can register for student housing. According to Tom Weeks, Associate Director for Residential North Students will no longer have to meet requirements to apply for housing in Residential North, which consists of Langdon Woods and the student apartments. Students have received a ranking number in their campus mailboxes, which will be used to determine priority for student housing. Students who didn’t receive a student ranking number or have misplaced it can find their ranking numbers at Plymouth.edu/reslife. The ranking numbers, which are calculated by the number of credits a student has earned and the student’s age will determine who has a higher priority for their student housing choice. Also new this year, registration for Residential North for the 2010-2011 school year will be done before spring break. Weeks explained the early registration will help encourage students to apply to for Langdon Woods and the student apartments by eliminating the possibility that they will lose their current dorm by applying to Residential North. Students who are interested in applying for housing in Residential North will need to fill out an application online this year as opposed to the paper work students used to have to fill out. Weeks said that “The old paper application was confusing and the new application process is much easier to complete.” He continued by saying anyone interested in applying for Residential North housing should feel free to come into his office in Langdon Woods to speak with him about their options, he also explained how important he feels human interaction plays in the student housing application process. The Department of Residential Life hopes the changes to the registration process will make applying to Residential North easier and give students more options in student housing. Returning students who are not able to get student housing at Residential North or for whatever reason choose a traditional student housing arrangement will get their room assignment in April. Anyone interested in Residential North can find more information at Plymouth.edu/reslife/housingprocess/resnorth.html.
