PSU Wrestling Dominates Home Meet

Plymouth State Wrestling hosted its only home meet, and it sure was memorable.  The Panthers defeated Norwich 33-6, winning eight out of ten bouts. The two they lost could have easily gone either way. At 133 lbs., senior Tommy Paolera (Andover, MA) had a hard fought bloody battle, but came up short on points, losing 3-1. At 141 lbs., first year Josh Thornton (Rumford, ME) had a very impressive win and had a take down at the buzzer to pull off the victory 11-9. At 149 lbs., Senior Mike Willey (Tewksbury, MA) had a dominating win on points. Femi Wheeler (Mamaroneck, NY) had a dominating win as well, winning 14-5 on points.  At 165 lbs., Junior James Matlack (Ewing, NJ) edged out a win on points 5-4.  At 174 lbs. Dan Curley (Keokuk, IA) stole the show with the only pin of the night in the first period.  Rob Phillips also got a victory at 184 lbs., and senior Jake Gagnon (Manchester, NH) wrapped up the night with a solid victory on points at 285 lbs. On his first ever home win as Head Coach, Matt Eldredge was pleased. ” I was a little upset all our seniors didn’t get matches or wins, but we wrestled really, really well. We’ll just get better from here. The outlook looks good.” On 11/19 the team placed 6th out of fifteen teams at the Doug Parker Invitational. It was an exciting atmosphere and exciting win. It’s too bad there’s no more home meets to look forward to.
