Men’s Hockey Looks to Continue Hot Streak

Hanaway Rink was rocking on Saturday night with the student body officially back in full force, and ready to cheer for the Panthers after the long winter break.

The crowd wouldn’t have to wait long to cheer as Senior Chris Zaremba (Colorado Spring, CO) scored just 1:20 into the game after a Framingham State Ram’s turnover at the blue line. Working an impressive give-and-go with Alex Cottie (West Chester, PA), Zaremba hammered home his seventh goal of the season. Not to be outdone, first year Kevin Ray (Hopkinton, NH) scored his first collegiate goal off a rebound to put PSU up 2-0 going into the first intermission.

PSU was able to make it 3-0 after yet another first year student, Michael Freitag (Westmont, IL) scored 12:39 into the second period. The Rams were finally able to get on the board with a power play goal with less then two minutes remaining in the period. This put it at 3-1 going into the final period of play.

PSU was able to make it 4-1 when Zaremba drilled home his second of the night on a PSU power play with 9:14 remaining in the third. The Rams, though, did not go down without a fight. Framingham State was able to score at 10:29 after a scrum in front of the goal to make it 4-2. The Rams scored again with just twenty seconds left after pulling their goalie. Luckily, PSU was able to hold on and play out the final twenty seconds for the win.

The Panthers were on the road for their next game. They traveled to Salem State to take on the divisional rival Salem Vikings’ in a pivotal conference matchup.

Down 3-1 after three, the Panthers were able to put together one of the more exciting comebacks I have seen in awhile

After being down 3-1 early, the Panthers started the comeback when Philip Arnone (Litchfield, NH) drilled his second goal of the game on the powerplay at 7:19. Michael Freitag put the score even at three a piece, with a goal at the 10:35 mark. Kyle Greco (Hillside, IL) finally was able to put the Panthers ahead for good when he scored his 12thgoal of the season at 12:11.

Plymouth State plays again when they take on UMass Dartmouth tomorrow night at 6:00 PM in Hanaway Arena. The Panthers would greatly appreciate it if you can come down and support them for their last regular season home game.
