Salem, Mass.– The Plymouth State women’s soccer team traveled south to take on the Salem State University Vikings this past Tuesday in a non-conference matchup.
Salem State was in dominant in the first half of play, out shooting the Panthers by a margin of 8-1. Senior goal keep Chelsea Duval (Dover,N.H.) did her best to keep PSU in the game as she was able to make save after save to keep it tied at 0-0 going into the 2nd half.
Both teams had trouble putting together any offense during the half, even the Vikings put increasing pressure on the PSU defensive line. The Vikings made it interesting with only seconds remaining when a player was able to get on a breakaway and fired a shot that look destined to spell the end of the game. Luckily Duval continued her impressive play and was able to corral it as time expired to send the game to OT. It didn’t take long for the game winner to happen, as Salem State scored only a little over 2 minutes into the OT period.
Plymouth State played again Saturday (10/6/12) as they traveled to Southern Maine University.
