Late Goal Lifts Nichols Past Plymouth State

Dudley, Mass. – The Plymouth State men’s soccer team was in action this past Monday (10/8/2012) as they traveled to take on Nichols College in a non-conference matchup with PSU’s three game winning streak on the line.

The action was slow in the first half, as both teams struggled to get any offense going. Plymouth State had their best opportunity about halfway through the half when freshman Jens Bonnevier (Finspang, Sweden) looked to bury a header, but the Nichols goalkeeper corralled it to keep the game tied going into halftime.

The Bison had an excellent chance to score at about the 74th minute when a Nichols player was able to fire off a shot that went high over the crossbar. Plymouth State responded a few minutes later with their own great opportunity when senior Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y) was able to break free and a get a shot off, but it was tipped by the Nichols goaltender to preserve the tie. A few minutes later a Nichols player was able to drive home a deflection off a Plymouth State defender for the game winner.

Plymouth will next be in action this Sunday when they travel to take on Little East Conference rival Western Connecticut.
