What are your plans for Halloween this year? Unless you’re working, or you’re someone who hates Halloween, you’re going to need a costume, and this year, it better be a good one.
Whether you’re parading down Russell Street the weekend before the candy-filled holiday, or stuck at home passing out chocolate to crying toddlers, nobody wants to see the same old costumes year after year.
Of course you could go as a cowgirl, a witch, a geek, or a pirate, but why not branch out a little bit to rock a costume where you can get people to laugh? Why not be that guy at the party that comes in and everyone wishes they had his costume on?
Here are some tips to create your awesome Halloween look:
Pick something that interests you! Chances are, if you don’t know much about the person or topic you want to resemble, it’s going to come out worse than if you really know the subject.
Get creative with stuff you already own! Don’t underestimate the possibilities that can come from and old pair of pants, bed sheets, cardboard boxes, or duct tape. Money isn’t falling from the sky these days, so use what you have and save some cash.
Originality is key! As stated before, the last thing the world needs this Halloween is another witch or cowboy. Use your imagination; use the imaginations of other people if you need to. Go online and surf around. Put a little effort into your costume this year. Having a sweet, original costume will make wherever you’re going a blast.
Get your colors on, body paint is super cheap! Transforming from plain Jane to ‘Poison Ivy’ is as easy as red wig and a few tubes of green body paint. Instead of buying plastic wings from the store, why not have a friend from the Art department paint some on your back?
Keep with the times! Everyone loves a costume they can recognize the minute they see it. If your wearing leopard-print with a bump on your belly as well as in your hair, people will know who you are. Grab a blue suit coat, a black bow tie, and some black Ray-Bans and people will be calling out Gangnam Style all night.
Get your friends in on it! Group costumes can be awesome if everyone is into it. Break out your capes and go as The Avengers, bromance it up and go as One Direction. There are so many ways to get all your friends involved, and it makes for a great night with some great pictures.
Regardless of what you choose to wear, make this Halloween one to remember with your family and friends. Try something different than everyone else, use materials you don’t need to go out and buy, and don’t forget the power of your imagination.
