Women’s Tennis Team Comes Up Short Against Franklin Pierce

 

Rindge, N.H.  – The Plymouth State women’s tennis team was in action this past Thursday (10/11/12) on the road to take on Franklin Pierce in a non-conference math up.

         The Franklin Pierce Raven’s were able to jump out to an early 4-3 with only the fifth and sixth singles match’s left to play. Plymouth State sophomore Rosalie DiRado (Ganesvoort, N.Y.) came up strong in her match with scores of 6-2, and 6-1 to even the game up at 4-4 overall. After being down by one set early in her match, junior Chelsea Thibeault (Manchester, N.H.), as the second set was even 5-5, but Franklin Pierce was able to smother the comeback and win the match.

         Standout on the day would be the play of freshman Nitsa Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.). After teaming up with senior Sara Burke (Barrington, R.I.) earlier in the day to win their first doubles by a score of 8-3. Ioannides was also able to win her second doubles match later.

         Plymouth State will wrap up their season this Saturday when they travel to UMass Boston in a Little East Conference match.
