Plymouth, N.H. – The fourth-seeded Plymouth State Played began the opening round of the 2012 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament this past Tuesday (10/6/2012) as they hosted the fifth-seeded Rhode Island College at the PE Center courts.
Senior Sara Burke (Barrington, R.I.) continues her impressive season as she won her No. 1 singles match by a score of7-5, 6-0. Burke was also able to win her No.2 doubles match later in the day as she teamed with junior Molly Heartfield (Dorest, Vt.) to cruise to victory by a score of 8-3. The Panthers were also helped on the day by the freshman dynamic duo of Nista Ioannides (El Cajon, Calif.) and Andra Dion (Ashland, N.H.), who came roaring back from a 7-4 deficit to win by a score of 9-7. Also helping the Panthers in their victory on the day were junior Jane Duggan (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Chelsea Thibeault (Manchester, N.H.) who also were able to come back in their match to win.
Also of note would be that with her win on Tuesday Sara Burke now has 31 career singles victories, which is good for third all-time and the most as the No. 1 single.
