Plymouth State Field Hockey Opens LEC Tournament Play

 

Plymouth, N.H. – The Plymouth State field hockey team opened Little East Conference Field Hockey Tournament play this past Wednesday (10/31) as they hosted fifth-seeded Westfield State University.

Westfield State, although outshot by Plymouth by a margin of 16-4, was able to rely on their outstanding defense and was able to keep the came close for the vast majority of the first half. Senior Oliva Colborn (Lancaster, N.H.) was able to finally put Plymouth on the board with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the first, after she was able to deflect a feed from sophomore Sam Carberry (Shrewsbury, Pa.) to make the score 1-0 going into the second.

Junior Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, N.H.) got PSU on the board early in the second after she took a great crossing pass from sophomore Nikki Garvey (Canaan, N.H.) to make it 2-0. Junior Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) scored the next two goals in a span of less than five minutes to put PSU up 4-0. Colborn rounded out the scoring for the Panthers at 11:20 remaining to make it 5-0.

Westfield was able to breakup the shutout with 1:09 remaining after they were able to take advantage of a late penalty to make the final score 5-1.

PSU was set to take on UMass Dartmouth this Saturday in a semifinal matchup. Keep checking back for complete game coverage!
