Plymouth State Host Curry College in Football Season Finale

Plymouth, N.H. – The Plymouth State football team closed out their season this past Saturday afternoon as they hosted Curry College in a NEFC– Boyd Division game.

The Colonels looked poised to run away with it early, totaling 168 total yards of offense and taking 13-0 lead. After both teams fumbled on their first possession, Curry was able to get on board after junior Kevin Fruwirth (Agawam, Mass.) hit senior Greg Caswell (Brookfield, Mass.) for a 17-yard TD. The extra point attempt failed, however, to make the score 6-0. Fruwirth and Johnson would connect again later in the first for another TD, which on top of a extra point attempt that was good, made the score 13-0 at the end of the first.

The Panthers were finally able to get on the board in the second quarter when junior Jake Tyler (Maynard, Mass.) hit Andrew Foglia (Montauk, N.Y.) from 6-yards for the TD to make it 13-6. The Panthers tied the game with six minutes left to play in the second quarter after Tyler was able to run the ball in from about seven yards out. The Colonels came right back to retake the lead again only a few minutes later to make it 20-13 going in to halftime.

PSU looked poised to tie the game early in the third after an 11-play dive that brought them to the Curry six-yard line. Curry senior Rashad Sims (Beverly, Mass.) was able to pick off Tyler and kill the drive before they could finish it.

The Colonels added to the lead early into the fourth quarter after a 10-play, 97-yard drive to make the score 27-13.

Plymouth State had an opportunity to score again with only a few minutes remaining, but they were unable to capitalize on a first-and-goal at the Curry two-yard line. The Panthers did manage to score final time as Tyler connected with senior Dustin Matthews (Eliot, Maine) to make the score 27-19. Curry was able to recover PSU’s on-side kick and run out the clock to secure the victory.
