Plymouth, N.H. – The PSU Women’s ice hockey team opened their 2012-13 season this past Saturday as they hosted Saint Michael’s College in Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) matchup at Hanaway Rink.
The Purple Knights got on the board early in the first after senior Melissa Hallisey (Deham, Mass.) was able to corral a rebound and sneak it past the PSU goalie in to put the visitors up 1- 0.
Saint Mike’s was able to extend their lead even further in the 2nd as they exploded for three goal in the span of only a few minutes. The first goal came when senior Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J.) fired an absolute laser just under the crossbar to make it 2-0. Santore was at it again only a few minutes later when she was able to score off the power play to make it 3-0. The Knights scored again only 14 seconds later when junior Tracy Stevenson (Wayne, Maine) scored off a rebound for a final score of 4-0.
Plymouth State was led on the night by junior goalie Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ontario) who made 29 saves on 33 shots faced. Freshman Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the night offensively with five shots on goal.
Plymouth State will play its next six games on the road, beginning this coming weekend as they face Castleton State College and New England College.
