Panthers Able to Hold Off Framingham State in Slug Fest

Framingham, Mass. – The Plymouth State men’s hockey team were on the road again this past Thursday evening as they traveled to take on Framingham State University in a clash of MASCAC rivals.

The Panthers took an early lead when freshman Josh Woody (Sunderland, MD) was able to knock in a loose puck just in front of the net to put PSU up 1-0. The Rams were able to tie the game just before the end of the period after they scored off a faceoff in the offensive zone to make 1-1 going into the 1st intermission.

Plymouth State didn’t waste long reclaiming the lead. After being able to corral the rebound off a hard shot from senior Richie Zobak (Evergreen Park, IL), junior Travis Stevens (Montclair,CA) was able to score to make it 2-1. The Panthers scored again only a few minutes later when sophomore Mike Freitag (Westmont, IL) found senior Kyle Greco open in front of the net and Greco was able to drive it home to make it 3-1.

The Rams were able to pull within one late in the period, but Greco scored his second of the period to make it 4-2 going into the final frame.

PSU again added to their lead early in the third off a PP goal from Stevens to make it 5-2, but the Rams answered again only a few short minutes later to make it 5-3. The Panthers responded in kind at 10:00 when freshman Zach Fox (Sandow, NH) was able to take the pass from Zobak and bring it all the way back for his first goal of his career at PSU to make it 6-4.

The Rams were able to score two goals late in the third (one of which came off an interception with less than a minute to play) to make it interesting, but that was all they could muster for a final score of 6-5.
