Salem, MA- Plymouth lost a tough game against non-conference foe Salem State. Salem got the win and improved their record to 11-10, while Plymouth still sits above .500 at 12-9. The 6-2 home victory gives Salem State some confidence going into their next game against Endicott. Plymouth looks to rebound strong in a conference double header against UMass Dartmouth this Saturday. The first game will be home, with a 12 pm start.
Plymouth jumped ahead first in the third inning when Steve Beard (Townsend, Mass.) smashed a triple, later scoring, making it 1-0. Salem State had some fire power of their own in the bottom of the third with a double by DH Bill Cataldo, and a single by SS Ryan Beliveau. The score did not remain 2-1 long when Dave Hall hit an RBI single, making the score 2-2.
Salem State jumped back ahead in the bottom of the fourth from a Matt Burgess run, thanks to an RBI single from CF Richard Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.). Things kept getting hot for Salem after Kyle McElroy (Newburyport, Mass.) smacked a huge two RBI single. He would later score on a Plymouth State error, ending the day for PSU pitcher Rew Wilson, and making the score 6-2 in favor of Salem State. No runs would go in favor of the PSU Panthers, making the score final.
Salem State pitcher Ryan Sharp improved his record to 3-0. He had a great game going 7 innings, while getting four strikeouts and only letting up two runs. Relief pitcher Shawn Hull was nearly unhittable in two innings of relief, letting up one hit, and proving to be a problem for the Panthers.
