PSU Baseball Loses Battle Against Keene State

KEENE, N.H. – Plymouth State lost a tough one on Tuesday night, falling 5-1 against Keene State College. The loss drops Plymouth to an even 16-16 record, while KSC goes a game above .500 at 17-16. Junior Tucker Regan (Niantic, Conn.) took the loss for Plymouth, giving up four earned runs and allowing seven walks. Keene State relief pitcher Cody Dube saw his record jump to 4-1 after coming in for relief and pitching 3.2 innings, while allowing no runs.

PSU came away with an early run in the first inning after Senior Steve Beard (Middleton, Mass.) walked and later scored. Keene quickly matched the Panthers run with their own first inning score, when KSC Senior Greg Bates (Salem, NH) stole home during a throw to second base.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Keene State Owls got hot after Freshman Brett Dootson doubled home two runs.  Two more walks then loaded the bases moving Dootson to third, where he later scored on a fielder’s choice. The score remained 4-1 going into the 6th.

After two scoreless innings KSC took advantage of a Plymouth State error in the infield, which allowed them to hit home plate once more. At the end of nine innings the score was final, 5-1 in favor of the home team. The win improved Keene’s winning streak to six and put them at 7-3 within the Little East Conference. With the loss, PSU drops to 3-7 within the LEC.

Plymouth State plays 4:00 pm at home Wednesday against Castleton State. The boys look to get back on a roll in this non-conference matchup. Keene State Owls look to make their winning streak jump to seven in a home matchup against Daniel Webster College.
