
North Dartmouth, Mass.- Plymouth Lacrosse ends the season with a tough 11-6 loss to conference rival UMass. The away loss drops Plymouth’s record to 8-4, with a 4-3 record in the LEC. With the win UMass Dartmouth improved their record to 10-4, being 4-3 in the Little East Conference. Plymouth finishes the season tied for third in the LEC, and look to strike luck in the Playoffs at the four seed.
The game remained scoreless throughout the first ten minutes of the fourth quarter, until Dartmouth’s Dan Dawley had the first strike of the game. The first was owned by UMass, as they scored one more to make the first quarter stand at 2-0.
UMass started the second with another strong goal, putting them up 3-0. PSU decided to start getting it going for themselves, when Mike Ventura (Columbia, NJ) took one in unassisted. With under a minute to go in the first half Sophomore Aaron Boss (Keene, NH) brought in another unassisted goal for Plymouth, making the score now 3-2 in favor of UMass.
At the start of the second half PSU’s Nick Morello (N. Billerica, Ma) and Chris Annunciata (Waltham, Ma) each found the back of the net, putting the Panthers up by one. The quarter would fare better for UMass after three unanswered goals, making the score 6-4 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, UMass Dartmouth continued their dominance over Plymouth State. The Corsairs’ outscored the Panthers 5-2 in the fourth quarter, clinching the win and a higher seed over PSU. The score would remain final at 11-6.
PSU will verse UMass Boston in the first round of the Little East Conference playoffs. The game will be home on Tuesday. UMD will host Western Connecticut at 7:00 pm in a first round battle of their own.
