Mud was released April 26 2013, written by Jeff Nichols and starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, as well as up and coming actor Tye Sheridan. A recent release, critics have instantly loved this southern mystery masterpiece. The movie opens with two boys going to an abandoned ship stuck in a tree from a recent flood. When discovering the boat they then learn they aren’t the only ones who had found it and find a new friend by the name of “Mud”. This movie fills your head with questions, but it slowly answers each one as the story continues. Not only does the character Ellis (Sheridan) try to help his new found friend Mud, but he also has to deal with the divorce of his parents and fight for the love of his crush. This eventually changes this mystery into a coming-of- age movie with love as the main theme. The entire time I couldn’t help but be amazed at how original the story was. Finally, a movie that isn’t another remake of an old 80’s classic or an animated movie with the simplest plot! This one will take you on a journey with twists and turns that are so severe it’ll make your stomach twist… literally. It’s a perfect movie with a great story, believable characters, bursts of intense action and an unbelievable performance by a young and unknown actor. I’d give this movie 7.4 out of 10, a very good and enjoyable movie with strong emotion. A great watch for a movie night, and a must see.
