Plymouth, N.H.-The Panthers arrived in Gorham, Maine looking for their third win of the 2013 season. The Panthers last match ended in a draw against nationally-ranked Tufts University. Plymouth looked to continue their success on defense while attempting to put some goals on the board against Southern Maine. Plymouth State took on a struggling Southern Maine at Hannaford Field, who have yet to win a game this season. The Panthers managed to score two goals in the second half to complete their second shutout in a row.
Plymouth was able to get a win with solid goal tending from Sophomore Sam Whipple (Kingston, N.H.), who saved four shots on goal.
Whipple was able to keep the score tied at 0-0, saving two back-to-back shots by Southern Maine in the second half. Alex Herbert (Lexington,Mass) came up big in the 57th minute scoring his third goal of the season. Mason Cliche (Lancaster, N.H.) gave Plymouth some breathing room scoring his first goal of the season.
Plymouth led with 18 shots, in which 12 were on goal; while Southern Maine only managed to get 4 shots on goal.
Plymouth will host Norwich University Tuesday and hope to get their fourth win of the season.
