Plymouth State volleyball broke a two game losing streak after defeating Southern Maine University on Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers took the Little East Conference (LEC) win in a closely fought four-set match. The Lady Panther victory left Southern Maine winless in the LEC. Meanwhile, Plymouth moved up in the standings to number two.
The Panthers won the first set 25-17, but fell in the second set 25-19. PSU, not willing to lose, came back to win the third set 25-21 before closing the match with another 25-17 victory.
The team’s offense was firing with three Panthers recorded double-digit kills. Junior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, NJ) lead the team with 12 kills, while senior Kaitlyn Tedschi (Pascoag, RI) and freshman Mikki Taffe (Sandown, NH) followed suit with another 11. Nieman also contributed five digs and two block assists. Sophomore setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, NH) managed the offense with a match-high 45 assists.
This weekend Plymouth will travel to Mount Holyoke College to participate in the Little East NEWMAC Challenge.
