Football Loses a Tough one vs Bridgewater

Plymouth, NH- In a game that saw a total of 84 points combined Plymouth was the victim, losing to Bridgewater State by a score of 56 to 28. The fourth straight loss drops Plymouth’s record to 1-5, while being winless in the conference at 0-4. With the win, Bridgewater State increased their own record to 4-3 overall with a 3-2 conference record.

After the Panthers received the ball and later fumbled on their own 29 yard line, Bridgewater State started the scoring frenzy on an eight play drive that finished when Mike McCarthy ran in a three yard touchdown. PSU came right back on the next drive when freshman quarterback Ryan Perron (N. Attelboro, Ma) delivered a beautiful pass to senior wide-out  Zac Iovanella (N. Andover, Ma).

Bridgewater State had a chokehold on the rest of the first half, where they scored 28 straight points while allowing only one more touchdown to Plymouth State’s Chris Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) via a 80 yard kick return.  The game was the same for the rest of the first half, with Bridgewater on top of Plymouth 35-14.

Plymouth and Bridgewater State traded touchdowns in the third quarter, making the score 49-28. Perron threw a 30 plus yard touchdown pass, and Senior halfback Andrew Foglia (Montauk, NY) scored from one yard out.

The Panthers were held scoreless in the fourth quarter and also gave up yet another touchdown to help Bridgewater reach a season high of 56 total points. The scoreboard read 56-28 when the clock hit zero, with the Bridgewater State Bears on top.

PSU’s own Perron impressed in only his second career start as a first year throwing for 150 yards, while also tossing two touchdown passes and zero interceptions. Iovanella had a nice day for the Panthers, grabbing four receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, while also totaling 75 yards on kick return.

The Panthers look to get back to winning in an away game against Framingham State this Saturday. Bridgewater plays home against Westfield State.
