Women’s Basketball Falls Despite Strong First Half

The Plymouth State Women’s basketball team traveled to Western Connecticut State University where the Colonials defeated the Panthers, 58-44. With the loss, the Lady Panthers fell to 1-9 in the Little East Conference.

The Panthers held the lead in a tightly matched first half.  Twice, PSU was able to break away with a six-point advantage, the last came when Senior Captain Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H.) hit a long three pointer with one-minute left in the first half. Sophomore Bry Bennett (Lancaster, N.H.) led the team with ten points in the first half of the game. Plymouth went into the locker room with a four-point lead, 32-28, at the break.

Western Connecticut returned to the floor with a defensive mentality, only allowing four points with the first 4:34. The Colonials were able to build a lead that the Panthers could not come back from.

Corliss had a stand out game with seven points, ten rebounds, and six assists. Freshman DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, CT) led Plymouth with twelve points. Sophomore Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) and Senior Kait Deering (Sidney, ME) had two blocks in the effort.

The Lady Panthers return to the floor Tuesday night when they play Southern Maine in a conference game, at home, in the Foley Gymnasium at 5:30 pm.
