Valentine’s Day is over, so no more romantic movies. Here are some of the most brutal, gruesome, or just downright depressing movies that are the perfect cure for that Valentine’s Day hangover.
1. Reservoir Dogs: Quentin Tarantino’s debut filled with blood, gangsters, corruption, betrayal. Not so romantic. The story of a heist gone wrong told from the perspective of all the people involved is filled with death and mystery. Reservoir Dogs wouldn’t be the movie to watch for date night. With all the back-stabbing done in this movie, couples might start to get paranoid of the other’s betrayal after watching it.
2. Crash: This movie may be hard to watch due to the constant flow of racial slurs, controversial topics, and heartbreak. It would make anyone uncomfortable while watching, let alone trying to spark romance from it. So many stereotypes are brought out and put on display in this movie it’s hard to even talk about it.
3. The Happening: Like death, insanity, and gruesome scenes? No? Then don’t try using this film for movie night with your significant other. Never ending groups of people committing suicide in harsh, painful, and unintentionally humorous ways, then having to deal with the loss of characters you learn to like in a short amount of time. There is so much death in this one movie that no one could feel the love in this film.
4. Brooklyn’s Finest: A dirty cop movie with a bit of betrayal and lots of darkness. Filled with a great cast, Brooklyn’s Finest is a decent movie all in all, but it is not at all romantic. It spends a third of a movie with an old cop hoping to retire with a prostitute as his only love interest.
5. War of the Rose’s: A story about a couple in the middle of a divorce, pushing each other to the limits to try to get the other to leave the house. Lots of anger, resentment, and hatred. The movie ends with the couple dying and no one living happily-ever-after (except their lawyers, of course). Not in the mood to start a fight with your significant other? Keep this movie off the screen.
6. Blue Valentine: The guy trying to get the girl is a jerk and a screw up with a couple of cute pick up lines. The girl of his dreams is a depressing, gloomy girl who when asked to make a joke thinks of one about child molestation. Trust me, this movie isn’t worth a watch and is very unromantic. Crappy music in the background, awkward pauses that don’t lead to a romantic scene, and finally a never ending supply of emotions being toyed with. This is supposed to be a Drama/Romance… must have forgotten to add the romance.
