With the winter nearing a bitter end and Spring on the horizon, this means that the boys are back in town. Plymouth State Men’s Lacrosse is set to take on the Little East Conference this year. They are ranked 4th regarding to the LEC Preseason lacrosse poll. The Panthers are out of their cage and they are hungry.
PSU had a solid season last year coming out of the gate hot and starting 8-2 on the season. The final record for them on the season was 9-5 with a 4-3 record within the LEC. Most starters from last season return to the field this year including Senior attack Zach Frank (Wakefield, Ma). Frank led the Panthers with 51 points on the 2013 campaign which added to his triple digit 115 career points. Fellow teammate Brett Miller (Windham, NH) returns to the field after two full years of play. Miller was tied for second on the team with 36 points including 21 goals and 15 assists in 14 games.
The Plymouth Panthers start their 2014 season Saturday at the University of New England. This matchup brings a lot of hype to a team that has come together over the last couple of years. Players like four-year senior Adam Nassaf (Marblehead, Ma) sense this hype, and realizes that the team can go far.
“I see a lot more focus and accountability within the team. I have been playing for four years and this may be the closest team we have had” said Nassaf. “We learn together every day and hopefully some of those lessons can work out on the field”.
In his 6th year, coach Gordon Webb is looking to help Plymouth become a powerhouse in the LEC this year. The team will need to get past teams such as Keene State, Eastern Connecticut and UMass Dartmouth (all ranked above PSU). With some returning players and even some up-and-coming underclassmen, the Panther’s Lacrosse team could make some serious noise this spring.
