The annual Spring Fling event has finally arrived at Plymouth State University. Each year the event promises games and food, including a beer tent for those 21 and older, as well as great music, from both a Battle of the Bands competition on Friday to a special musical guest Saturday night. This year reports of rain have given rise to concerns from students regarding relocation.
“For our Friday Battle of the Bands concert and Kings Dead show, we will be upstairs in the courtroom of the HUB in case of bad weather,” said senior Adam Nassaf, president of the Spring Fling committee. “We did this two years ago with RJD2 and had a huge turnout.”
This year’s musical guest will be Smash Mouth along with Hit the Lights. The bands will play on Saturday with doors opening at 7:30 pm by the Field House, located on the north side of route 175-A. Nassaf says that event won’t need to move. “Our stage is covered overhead and has wings extending over the sides.” Nassaf mentioned that concerts in past years, such as Drake and The Black Eyed Peas, have been successful despite the unpleasant weather. Adding to the security of the event, the committee decided to purchase precautionary lightning insurance. “That could be dangerous in an open crowd full of people with large metal light towers scattered around the crowd.”
