Plymouth is known for its mammoth amounts of snow and the pristine ski areas that surround the campus. As a large number of PSU's students are avid skiers and riders, room 239 in Pemi Hall has been changed from a study lounge into a ski tuning lounge.
The room was once located on the fourth floor in the laundry room but has since moved locations, been revamped, and become a much more friendly, easy to use, room. The new room is located just off the elevator on the second floor. Inside holds a variety of supplies and equipment used for tuning. There are two tuning benches, a toolbox full of supplies, posters from the surrounding ski areas, two couches, and murals of trail maps all around the room.
“A lot of work has gone into creating this room and I hope that this becomes a space residents utilize and hang out in,” said Erica Burke, Residence Director of Pemi Hall. “As we work to promote the new room our goal is to create more ski tuning rooms across campus.”
The room is designed to be a place for skiers and snowboarders to hang out, talk about the day on the mountain, and tune their equipment. The word has not reached all ends of campus yet, as it is a new renovation, but in time the hope is for skiers and snowboarders to have a place to fine-tune their rides.
In order to get into the room one simply needs to ask a CA, a desk assistant, or Erika the RD for the key to open the room to utilize it. So far this semester, the room has been unlocked, upon many requests, and thus allowing student to freely use the equipment.
“I think the room is great! I have already used it,” said Emily Spaulding, a Community Advisor in Pemi Hall. “It is a great addition to the building as it gives residents and students living in other residence halls a place to tune their skis and snowboards for free.”
Whether one is looking for a place to hangout and meet new people who share the same love for the snow that they do, or a place to tune their skis and snowboards, Pemi 239 is the place! With two couches and ski maps galore, it’s a home away from the mountain that is yet another hidden treasure of the university.
