The end of the school year is finally upon us and all spring sports have played their final games, After valiant efforts from all the spring teams, let’s look at their final rankings.
#1 Women’s Lacrosse (Last Issue: 1) – Women’s lacrosse finishes on top with a 13-4 record, 6-0 in-conference, making it all the way to the Little East title game falling just short to Keene State. PSU was led by leading scorer Amy McDonald; the Panthers scored 245 goals this season
#2 Men’s Lacrosse (Last Issue: 2) – Men’s Lacrosse finishes the year 12-4 overall with a 5-2 LEC record, winning their first playoff game against Salem State before falling in the semis to Eastern Connecticut. They finish with 157 goals and 87 assists.
#3 Softball (Last Issue: 3) – Panther softball finishes the season 13-21 with a winning 8-6 conference record, just missing the playoffs, recording 231 hits, 131 runs, 15 homeruns. The pitching staff had a combined ERA of 4.70 hurling 118 strikeouts.
#4 Baseball (Last Issue: 4) – In coach Dennis McManus’ final season the boys went 16-24 with a conference record of 4-10. They had many key victories but unfortunately couldn’t make playoffs. They had 325 hits, 164 runs scored, and 2 homeruns. Pitching had a 5.55 ERA, and 255 strikeouts.
Now let’s take a look at the top five Panther athletes of the spring season
#1 Senior Amy McDonald (Hull, MA / Women’s Lacrosse) – Amy had a remarkable season for the Panthers picking up 88 points, 60 goals and 28 assists and a 68.5 shooting percentage. She finishes her collegiate career with a total of 260 points. She was also named co-offensive player of the year, as well as first team all-conference.
#2 Senior Molly Gleason (Haverhill, MA / Women’s Lacrosse) – Molly finishes off this season with 112 draw controls bringing her total of the season to 420 a gargantuan number. She also had 20 goals and 12 assists to bring her points total to 32. She was also named midfielder of the year and first team all-conference.
#3 Senior Rachel Fistori (Medford, MA / Women’s Lacrosse) – Rachel was named defensive player of the year. She had 34 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers before she was named to first team all-conference.
#4 Senior Chris St. George (Marblehead, MA / Men’s Lacrosse) – Chris finished this season with 191 saves bring his two year total to 238. He was also named second team all-conference.
#5 Senior Nick Morello (North Billerica, MA / Men’s Lacrosse) – Nick finishes his career with 144 points 36 coming this year. He has a total of 107 goals scoring 29 this year. He too was named second team all-conference.
Honorable Mentions
Senior Nick Allard (Norwich, CT / Men’s Lacrosse) – Nick finishes this season with 11 caused turnovers and 31 groundballs. He was named second all-conference team for defense.
Senior Casey Curran (Framingham, MA / Women’s Lacrosse) – Casey was named goalie on the first team all-conference after a season where she had 133 saves and a 51.2 save percentage.
Sophomore Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, MA / Women’s Lacrosse) – Caroline finishes this season with 47 points, a combination of 42 goals and 5 assists, to bring her career total to 90. She was named second team all-conference.
Sophomore Katie Kennard (Concord, NH / Softball) – Katie finishes this season with 31 RBI’s, 36 hits, 2 homeruns, 2 triples and 9 doubles. She was really a leading part of the ladies offense.
Senior Cody Gilchrist (Tyngsboro, MA / Baseball) – Cody finishes the season with a 3.63 ERA. He also had 55 strikeouts and 52 innings pitched this season for the Panthers
