For those looking for a fun, not overly emotional holiday movie, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” staring Jim Carrey is the way to go. This classic came out in 2000, and it’s nothing short of a masterpiece.
The movie is a live-action take on the 1966 Dr. Seuss cartoon. Viewers get a backstory and a real feel for why the Grinch hates Christmas. This is a movie for people of all ages, and great to watch with family or friends. One does not have to celebrate Christmas to find this movie enjoyable. Jim Carrey's comedic style gives the Grinch a voice like never before.
Cindy Lou Who is a little girl in grade school who wants to crack the case of why no one talks about the Grinch. She eventually convinces the Grinch to come down from his mountaintop and accept the role of Holiday Cheermeister.
During a part of the ceremony, the Grinch feels betrayed and goes on a rampage to destroy the town. After the town picks itself back up, the Grinch knows what he must do to break the town's spirit; keep Christmas from coming.
He steals everything in everyone's houses, and thinks he has done an insanely good job during his hilarious montage. When he hears the Whos sing in the morning, the Grinch realizes that this holiday means a lot more than just getting presents.
In a sudden surge of new emotions, the Grinch's heart grows three sizes. Cindy Lou comes to see him, and he brings the gifts back to the town.
So while the hot cocoa is heating up, and those cookies are in the oven, why not pop in a classic? “The Grinch” is a feel-good film that will make you laugh until your stomach hurts.
