Rated at an outstanding 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, the documentary “For the Love of Spock” (2016) plays an amazing tribute to Leonard Nimoy and his character as Spock in the “Star Trek” series.
This film was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original “Star Trek” series. It played last week at The Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center.
The documentary is directed by Leonard Nimoy’s son, Adam Nimoy. This film takes a closer look at Leonard himself beyond those prosthetic ears. It dives behind the scenes of the “Star Trek” series, as well as his life and family relationships at home.
Though it may seem like a film that it just meant for the “Trekkies”, it is quite an enjoyable film for someone who knows nothing about the series. There is never a dull moment. A lot of actors from the modern day “Star Trek” movies were interviewed for the film as well.
The audience gets to see the relationship between Leonard and his son, showing the past 50 years of his life. There’s as much laughter as there is emotional parts. At times, Leonard would put his work before his family, and Adam talks about how that personally impacted his childhood.
The film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was also the largest, most successful documentary project raised on Kickstarter.com. A total of 9,439 people pledged an amazing $662,640 to help the film be produced.
