This Friday, Recreation Programs will be hosting its annual Intramural Golf Tournament. Students this year, however, will be golfing for a cause.
The Nicholas Harrington Memorial Golf Tournament is Recreation Programs’ new name for its annual tournament, named in honor of the late PSU student. Harrington, who founded Plymouth State’s Golf Club, was an avid sports enthusiast. After a courageous 10-year battle with cancer, Harrington passed in late June.
Andrew Guay and Jeremy Fritz, Director and Assistant Director of Recreation Programs at Plymouth both agreed that the decision to name the tournament after Nicholas “was a no-brainer.”
“The Golf Club here at Plymouth had such a huge impact on his time here at Plymouth,” Guay said. “We didn’t think twice about naming it in his honor.”
The tournament is scheduled to take place this Friday, October 21st at the White Mountain Country Club in Holderness. Team check-in and opening ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with a lunch to follow. Teams that pay on or before October 19th will receive the early bird rate of $10/person, with a mandatory participant meeting scheduled for 6:00pm Wednesday night in HUB room 109. Those who wish to sign up after the 19th will pay $20/person.
All proceed will go to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
The first tee time goes off at 1:00pm. Along with longest drive and closest to the pin competition, the tournament is a nine-hole, two person scramble.
Aside from Guay and Fritz, this event wouldn’t be possible without Harrington’s family, the Plymouth State Golf Club and CoBA (The College of Business Administration). Any questions or concerns regarding the Nicholas Harrington Golf Tournament should be directed to Andrew Guay (adguay@plymouth.edu) or Jeremy Fritz (jtfritz@plymouth.edu), or at the Recreation Program’s website at http://www.plymouth.edu/recreation/fitness/.
