Men’s Soccer Shutout by Rival Keene State, Middlebury

Men’s soccer was shutout 3-0 over the weekend against the Keene State Owls in Plymouth. The Panthers came into the match after winning an overtime classic against Norwich University.

Plymouth was unable to mount any sort of offense, as they were only able to get one shot on goal out of five shots total. Keene was in complete control striking for 18 shots with 11 of them being on goal. Keene scored their first goal within the 18th minute when a defensive battle formed with both teams unable to find the back of the net. Keene scored in the 70th and 85th minute capping off a 3-0 run against the Panthers and handing them their fifth loss of the year. Senior Goalkeeper, Felix Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden), saved seven shots for the Panthers out of 10 shots as his defense pitched in sending away one shot.

On Tuesday, It was Panther against Panther action at Arold Field. The Panthers of Middlebury College were in town to face off with the Panthers of Plymouth State. Plymouth came into Tuesday having lost five out of their last six games and were looking to get back on track, but the Panthers of Middlebury had other ideas.

Middlebury commanded the entire game, having 13 shots on goal and only allowing Plymouth two shots on goal. Middlebury kicked off their scoring with a goal in the 32nd minute of the first half, which would end up being the only goal of the first half.

Plymouth looked to have a chance, down 1-0 coming into the second half, but would not be able to take advantage as Middlebury went on an offensive outpour. Five goals were scored in the second half giving them a dominant 6-0 victory. Plymouth senior goalkeeper, Felix Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden) ended his day with seven saves.

Middlebury remains undefeated improving to 6-0-2 (NESCAC 3-0-2) as Plymouth falls to 3-6-1(LEC 0-3-0). Plymouth looks to get back to their winning ways as they welcome the Huskies of Southern Maine Univer– sity (1-7-3, 0-3 LEC) to Arold Field for a LEC matchup on Saturday, October 8, at 3pm.
