This year’s freshman class was welcomed to Plymouth State University in a fashion unfamiliar to any other. For the first time in school history, the University held its first ever “Panther Days.” Panther Days took place during the weekend preceding the commencement of classes for the fall semester. This was a chance for the freshmen class to acclimate to their new school, and served as a chance for them to get to know one another on a more personal basis.
Panther Days began on Friday, August 26th, promptly after the new students finished moving into their dorm buildings with the first session of first year seminar classes. Along with the classic first year seminar classes, this year saw the first every introduction of a class entitled “The Importance of Practice” taught by Annie Hagar and Cheryl Coker. This class was built for students who were unable to be placed into a first year seminar at their orientation, and was instead a class focused on harnessing the power of practice and how proper practice can lead to greatness.
Following the first year seminar sessions was a welcome banquet held in ALLWell North. Students were able to get in early to take pictures with Pemi the Panther, and sat amongst other classmates as well as faculty and staff that were seated at every table.
Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of First Year Experience Mark Fischler welcomed the enormous freshman class at the banquet. “Today is the first step of building a community together. Together, we can help solve problems around the world.”
