Enactus is a club that stands for Entrepreneurial, Action, Us and is in its second active year here at Plymouth State University. As well as being present on our campus this organization has other functioning chapters globally. An active member, Kenneth Marcroft explains what Enactus is stating “We’re an entrepreneurial club that aims to benefit the local, national and global community by building long lasting partnerships and working together to overcome any challenge.” Their goals are based largely upon United Nation concerns such as poverty and pollution.
“One of our projects is with the common man it’s called the Ice Cream Project. We are trying to develop a flavor and we are actually trying to buy an ice cream machine so we can sell it in stores and at PSU. We are also employing veterans to make the ice cream, hopefully. Our goal is to get one veteran this summer.” When asked where Enactus receives its funding Marcroft states “we have partnerships with banks, we fundraise… its one of our goals to find ways to generate money… to put toward our projects.” Other projects involve one at the Pemi-Youth center where Marcroft and other Enactus members hope to raise money in order to supply them with necessary materials.
Recently Marcroft and other Enactus members traveled to Chicago for the Enactus United States Regional Competition. “We stood in front of these corporate judges and presented our projects. We had three main projects that we presented.” Presenting in front of 17 corporate judges were over 30 schools. “We won our division.” Marcroft states proudly. As well as winning the competition they were named as Rookie of the Year. “I am just amazed at how rapidly Enactus has grown in the past two years that I’ve been involved. Winning in Chicago really proves to our organization as well as our university that we are putting action toward meaningful causes. We will continue to expand our projects and our organization. Young, highly motivated students are greatly encouraged to join in our journey to success.” As a United States Regional Champion Plymouth States Enactus now proceeds to the National Exposition, which will take place May 15th in St. Louis, Missouri.
At just two years old Enactus has over 30 active members. Marcroft comments on the state of the club saying “We have a lot of business majors involved right now but we want other’s because we have projects that could use childhood education majors.”
Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress. There are over 400 active programs on college campuses across the nation and in 36 other countries.
Enactus students apply business concepts to develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. https://www.enactusunitedstates.org/about_enactus_us
