Women’s Soccer falls to Keene State

On Sat. Sept. 26, the Plymouth State’s Women’s Soccer team fell at Arold Field as their rival, Keene State College, topped the Panthers 4-2 in a Little East Conference match. With this loss, the Panthers fell to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play while the Owls of Keene State moved to 5-2-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The beginning of the match was scoreless until in the 24th minute when Keene State’s Shannon Summers scored to give the Owls the lead at 1-0. Three minutes later, the Owls scored again when Patricia Norton found the net to double the Keene State lead.

The second half started off very quickly as Plymouth State senior Leah Swanson (Atkinson, NH) scored to cut the score in half making it 2-1. Less than five minutes later however, Summers of retaliated with her second goal of the match when she scored giving Keene State another two-goal lead.

Two minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Keene State scored for the final time as Taylor Farland found the net adding to the score again. The match remained steadfast for some time until Emily Crawford (Albuquerque, NM) scored for Plymouth on an unassisted shot to cut the score in half again.

Although Plymouth played hard they were not able to top Keene State astheOwlswon4-2. KeeneStatehad 28 shots on goal to Plymouth State’s 8 with the Panther’s goal keeper Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, NH) making 15 saves while Keene State’s keeper made just one save.

The Panther women look to bounce back this Tuesday as they traveled to Lyndon State and look to improve their record on the season to 4-3. (Lyndon State-Plymouth State scores unavailable for press time).
