On the morning of Sunday, April 28, the March of Dimes will be holding the thirty-second annual WalkAmerica. This event is organized to raise money to help and eventually prevent premature babies or babies with birth defects. In addition to PSC Day, this will create a great community service opportunity for students, clubs, organizations and Greek Life.
Almost half a million babies are born prematurely every year. Each day, one hundred fifty-seven babies are born small enough to fit in the palm of an adult hand. These one-half-million premature babies are fourteen times more likely to die within their first year than babies born full term are.
For more than sixty-three years, March of Dimes research and innovative programs have saved millions of babies from birth defects, low birth weight and death. WalkAmerica is their biggest fundraiser to save these children.
Sunday morning, individuals will have a choice of walking from one to three miles in support of the cause. Sponsorship and registration forms are available in the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) office in the HUB. It is preferred that registration is done in advance, but it is not required.
Walkers who have not registered in advance need to meet in front of the HUB at 8:30 a.m., the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. For further information please contact the CSLC office at x2639 and leave a message for Amy Franklin.
