Plymouth, NH- Plymouth battled struggling Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon and were unable to close this game out tying 1-1 in double overtime. Plymouth Senior Adam Groves (Brooksville, ME) headed in the tying goal with 8:23 remaining in regulation at Panther field. Plymouth States’ overall record is now 4-4-2.
Plymouth looked to get their third win in a row after defeating Southern Maine and Norwich, which got them back to .500. Both teams were unable to score in the first half; the Panthers outshot the visitors 9-5, none of which were scoring opportunities. In the 76th minute, Western Conn. junior Phil Dagostine headed a dazzling pass from fellow teammate first year Aislan Sartori to put West Conn. up 1-0.
PSU didn’t give up, continuing the pressure, and in the 82nd minute Groves headed in a drop pass from fellow Panther sophomore Alex Herbert(Lexington, Mass), which tied the game at 1-1. This would put the game into overtime, where no team was able to find the back of the net. Both goal tenders finished with 3 saves on the afternoon. PSU also led in shots with 19 to Western Conn’s eight.
PSU is back at it tomorrow afternoon at Panther Field at 1:00 p.m. against a LEC rival Rhode Island College.
