Good vibrations were in the air on Monday, February 26th as the first Open Mic of the spring semester got underway. The two-hour PACE sponsored event consisted of around eleven acts, all comprised of students doing what they love.
There were a variety of styles and tones performed, ranging from poetry to jamming out on guitars and more. Students performing music were allowed an average of two songs, though some did more and some did less. Students performed a lot of original work, in addition to some fun covers.
Amid the variety of performances there was inventive beat-boxing/ free styling to the “Mario” theme, a cover of Weezer’s “The Good Life,” a cover of Third Eye Blind’s “Semi Charmed Life,” a cover of ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra)’s “Girl I Wanna Lay You Down,” a cover of Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker,” and a beautiful rendition of Jack Johnson’s “Flake.”
PSU student Mike Kim, who was acting MC and also a performer said, “I’ve been coming to these since I was a freshman, it’s really good to see new faces. I’m glad we’ve been able to continue having them but we need to have these more often, it’s such a good time.”
Special thanks to all the students who signed up to perform and kept the atmosphere light with more than a touch of creativity. Be on the look out for the next Open Mic night and other events around campus, to enjoy good tunes or even get involved and express yourself.
