Campus Live was created in October 2006 by students, for students, at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The concept of Campus Live came from creator Jared Stenquist, a UMass Amherst student who brought students and faculty together to help him expand the concept to students everywhere.
Stenquist, the president of Jaredweb.com, a Massachusetts-based web development and hosting company. Stenquist is currently taking time off from UMass to pursue the development of Campus Live and other web properties.
He decided to create one for Plymouth after getting 500,000 hits in May 2006 on the UMass web site. Plymouth State University is the third school to launch Campus Live after UMass and Arizona State.
“Launching Plymouth was exciting,” said Stenquist. His brother Mark Stenquist, a sophomore attending Plymouth, helped much of the content for the web site, including collecting restaurant information, menus and making lists of links for the site.
Over 2,000 students have been registered on the site in the first week, and the upcoming months are promising.
So, what does Campus Live do? It has information on everything that is going on at campus. Events, keeping track of student organizations, bars, clubs, and local entertainment are some of the topics covered.
For those who can’t seem to track down that menu for a restaurant, you can just visit the website and it will give them a link to the menu, the phone number and even say if the restaurant it open.
For those students who don’t see the sun very much, there is up-to-the-minute news and weather provided by “The Clock,” as well as local and national news sources.
Campus Live also provides full access to links to both MySpace and Facebook.
Campus Live is literally a student’s one stop shop for all of their informational needs on everything that is going on in and around Plymouth.
