North Dartmouth Mass- The Plymouth State Panther football team lost for the second straight week by a score of 38-14. The loss to UMass Dartmouth drops the Panthers record to 1-3, while giving the Corsairs their first win of the season (1-2). Plymouth remains winless within their conference, with a record of 0-2.
PSU faced a tough uphill battle from the beginning when the Corsair’s capitalized on a 9 play 95 yard drive finishing with a touchdown pass. Later in the first quarter UMass Dartmouth’s Abiola Aborishade decided to be a game-changer and took the ball 93 yards on his first rush of the drive. After completing a field goal mid-way through the second quarter, UMD lead 17-0 going into halftime.
UMass Dartmouth opened up the third quarter with a huge 76 yard drive that led them to capitalize on a 2 yard rush by Trent Barneys. The Panthers later tossed in a score of their own when Quarterback Jake Tyler (Maynard, MA) completed a 37 yard pass to captain Zac Iovanella (N. Andover, Ma), finishing a 7 play 64 yard drive. UMD answered back on their next offensive play with a 75 yard touchdown run. They would continue to lead 31-7 going into the final quarter.
Both the Panthers and the Corsairs would score one more time each, both on runs. The touchdowns put the score at 38-14, which would remain final until the end of the game.
For the Panthers wideout Zac Iovanella had a huge game, grabbing 6 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive end, Senior Josh Morgan recorded 7 total tackles for the Panthers.
The Panthers look to get back to winning ways when they host Westfield State University in a 2:00 pm in-conference battle. UMass travels to Framingham State in another MASCAC game.
