On Thursday, March 29, roaring laughter could be heard coming out of the HUB’s Multi Purpose Room as comedian Eric Blake performed for Plymouth State students.
Although it was a Thursday night, a time when the HUB is usually deserted, there were over 65 Plymouth State University students in attendance at this PACE event.
Blake, who has been on “Comedy Central Presents” and HBO’s “War on Comedy,” succeeded in making eyes water and audience members laugh so hard they couldn’t sit still. This is the comedian’s first time here at Plymouth, despite having to, “Drive into the middle of the woods.”
The South Central Los Angeles native likes to keep his material well-rounded. Blake is versatile and he takes audience dynamics into account during his performances. The material was college-appropriate and he was sure to include his audience in the show, bringing them in on a few jokes, and one audience member learned how to fend off a grizzly bear. You can fight it off by “banging sticks,” exclaimed an audience member in the front row during the show. Blake used a lot of real life experiences in his material, and fed off of the audience’s energy.
During the show, members of PACE, The Clock, the Men’s Rugby team and various others were participants. Blake always ends his shows with improvisational comedy including a “fast food sex talk.” Audience members who attended are sure to remember the ‘mouse’ running down Blake’s leg as he lay on the couch with his wife.
After the show, students swarmed the comedian to thank him. Those interested in future events can check out what’s scheduled at PACEevents.org.
